This painting was inspired by time spent in the Swiss Alps one summer. The high meadows I went hiking through were covered in flowers and dotted with small timber barns. The barns had a similar look to the chalets that normally make me think of snow covered slopes, only this time of year the hills were coated in vibrant colors instead of white :)

The California coast is one of my favorite places. The combination of rocky cliffs, covered in wild flowers, that often plunge strait down to the ocean is just stunning. This painting is based off a view from a pull out along Rt. 1 just north of Santa Cruz.

Sometimes when I start a painting I don't have a particular image in mind and I just let imagination take over.  That's exactly what happened with the original of Breezy Meadow :)  The cool color pallet I was working with lent it's self to a calming scene where little meadow flowers danced in the breeze.

Upon becoming an adult I was shocked to discover that I'm a morning person... this was definitely not the case when I was younger!  I love the stillness and quiet of dawn when everything is just waking up. 

With this painting I wanted to show how the cool tones of the night blend with the warm tones of the day when the sun rays bounce off the clouds and are reflected on the ground.

Poised between the golden grasses of autumn and the coming winter that had already started to cover the mountains with snow, the landscape held a moment of balance between the changing seasons.

While traveling in Scotland I was fascinated by all the sheep that were roaming about. With the vivid green hills caught between the puffy white sheep and the puffy white clouds, the landscape was quite whimsical. Added amusement was the expression of the sheep who were wondering what was taking the humans so long to decide which path to go down!
